Within the technical conference “Wood and its opportunity for sustainable construction”, promoted by the Andalusian Forestry Association (AFA-Profor) and the LIFE Wood for Future project, the opportunity of wood and the forestry sector is debated in the construction. The event was attended by local authorities (mayor of Cazorla, deputy for Infrastructure of the province of Jaén) and regional authorities (territorial delegate of the Ministry of the Environment and Blue Economy and the General Director of Forestry Policy of the Junta de Andalucía) and technicians from the autonomous administration of the Junta de Andalucía. The opportunity for timber exploitation and the opportunity for construction with wood as a driving force for the future of the Cazorla region is highlighted, compatible with aspects of conservation and biodiversity.
The speakers at the event included Gabriel A. Gutiérrez, president of the Andalusian Forestry Association (AFA-Profor); Marián Núñez, president of the Association of Forest Owners of Eastern Andalusia (Foret); Marta Conde, professor at the University of Córdoba and head of the ReNaturaINZEB project; Rufino Nieto, editor and teacher of forestry teachings; the architect Beatriz Segura, founder of Habitante Arquitectos and Antolino Gallego, coordinator of the European LIFE Wood for Future project led by the School of Building Engineering of the University of Granada (UGR).
Marta Conde García gave a brief exhibition tour about the multiple works developed around Pinus nigra. She also highlighted the latest projects in which construction solutions, product sheets and generic environmental product declarations have been developed. With the environmental values of various natural products, wood and cork incorporated by UCO from the LIFE ReNaturalNZEB project in the price base of the Junta de Extremadura, the development of building projects with almost zero energy consumption with a low carbon footprint is facilitated.
